Mt. Meru
At a height of 4,566 metres (14,980 ft), it is the second highest mountain of Tanzania and the fifth highest mountain in Africa. You can climb Mt. Meru in 3 or 4 days. It is possible to climb Mt. Meru any time of the year. From October to February is the best time to climb this mountain because of the weather. In June to September it is a bit cooler. It freezes and it is very windy on top of the mountain, so gloves and good clothes are required.
There is only one route you can take to the top and you will overnight in huts. The early parts of the trail pass through lush rainforests of fig trees and Colubus monkeys high in the canopy. As you climb higher, the clouds clear in the late afternoon to reveal striking views of Kilimanjaro and the volcano chain on the edge of the Rift Valley. The last distance before the summit passes over the crater ridge, an exhilarating experience.
